As we celebrate our 10th Anniversary year in business, and as I look back over the past twelve months, I am proud of all the new features and information we have brought to the CIE membership. In our continuous effort to enhance the database & technology platform to provide a valuable tool for our membership, CIE has continued to invest money in our system to help Firms and their Brokers succeed and meet the challenges we all face each day.

We began our year by holding an off-site, half-day Strategic Planning session. The first half of this meeting was devoted to three CIE Vendors. Each of them demonstrated their product and discussed with us their business plans for the future. During the second half of the meeting, we focused on our business plan; looking at the needs of the current membership and what needs they would have in the future.

From the Strategic Planning session and the follow-up meetings we held, we assessed what services the members were purchasing from other competitive sources and attempted to deliver those services to our membership at a lower cost. I am pleased to say that CIE has delivered several new features to the system in 2010 without increasing membership fees. Some of the new features included:

In addition to the  new features, we continue to expand the property and listing data to the database. Staff time is dedicated to actively researching off market properties, non member data, sales and lease comp data. We are retrieving information from multiple sources; be it member supplied, an article in the newspaper or from the County Tax records.

Also in 2010, we began the tedious process of CIE vendor selection for our next generation system. As our contract with our current vendor sunsets in 2011, a Task Force was formed to investigate other CIE systems available on the market. We have had a tremendous amount of help with this endeavor by Office Administrators and Brokers who have taken valuable time out of their schedules to review and compare other CIE systems to ensure that we are providing the best service available. This process is continuing into the New Year with a decision due in the first quarter of 2011. Our primary goal is to become the ”Preferred” source for commercial real estate information and to select a state of the art system that will provide our members superior proprietary tools to compete in today’s changing commercial real estate environment.

Over the past year, we took a look back at the previous nine years with a Newsletter article written by one of our nine Past Chairpersons. The articles detailed how the CIE was started and how it has evolved. It was great reading the successes that they had during the year and the challenges that they faced and overcame. Each and every one of them did a great job during their term and brought something special to the position. I thank all of you for your service and continuous support.

And, as every Past Chairman has stated in their Newsletter article, the Chairman is the one highlighted during the year but there is a special group of people that stand with them throughout the year; completing a lot of the work and putting in the hours serving you as Directors. My year was no different. I would like to express my gratitude to the following Directors.  Vice Chairman- Peter Pfeifer, Past Chairwoman-Kelly Sullivan, the 2010 Directors: Letty Demay, Chris Fox, Ben Friedman, Darin Girdler, Stephen Gwinnup, Joe Hill, Fred Kratky, Jason Morgan, David Morris, Mike Pettit, and Scott Sacco. All gave 100% to the cause and many are continuing to serve in 2011.

Last but definitely not least, I thank you! With your support and in-put, CIE continues to improve services and set industry standards.  Our primary effort and continued mission is to develop, maintain and deliver a state of the art CIE System; providing our members a unique proprietary tool that allows them to have a competitive edge.

In comparing our CIE system to other REALTOR member systems throughout the nation, I am most proud of the effort put forth by all of our previous board members and especially our staff, led by Bonnie Devine, with Judith Jakuboski and Dena Buckley, who have  helped us to achieve recognition and respect as one of the leading CIE providers of information for our members.

CIE – What’s it all about?

CIE began in December 1999 as a means to connect the commercial brokerage community and maximize the free exchange of information electronically to better serve our clients. Since that time, CIE has evolved and changed to keep up with the demands of our market, and with each change CIE has gone to great lengths to offer services to members for as low a price as possible.

CIE is a regional, real-time online database of commercial properties. The system is owned by the St. Louis Association of REALTORS® and is powered by local real estate professionals. CIE is dedicated to bringing the most up-to-date technology to assist professionals engaging in the commercial property transaction process. Our extensive network of members includes over 200 participating firms with more than 500 commercial REALTOR® members.

This year we added two new pages to the CIE website. The first is our Commercial News page. Check this page out daily for the latest in local and national commercial news. You can click here to see what is being reported on right now!
