This month, we recognize Richard H. Guth, CCIM, CPM, RPA, of Friedman Group, Ltd, our 2006 Chairman.  Rick has been involved in the commercial real estate industry since 1979.  His experience includes leasing and sales of commercial and residential properties, property management, development, consulting and facilities and construction management.  Throughout his career Rick has been acknowledged as a leader in the effort to transform the commercial real estate industry from a paper based system to a database driven model that is real time, real results.  Currently he is involved in working to improve the City of St. Louis thru the sales and leasing of city properties.

Rick’s involvement with CIE began when he joined the CIE Committee – the predecessor to the Technology Committee – in 2000.  In 2001 he was appointed to the Board of Directors to fill an open position and then was re-elected to the Board in 2004.  From 2001 thru 2007 he served as Co-Chairman of the Technology Committee and in 2005 was elected the 2006 Chairman of the Board of Directors.

During our conversation Rick reflected on his time as Chairman and highlighted some of the memories of his time as a Director.

“When I joined the CIE Committee in May of 2000, a lot of changes had just occurred within CIE.  We had incorporated in January, launched our 2nd generation – and first windows based – system in March and hired our first Executive Director in April.  Although a lot of the heavy lifting had been completed by Steve Tharpe, Jim Finn, Eric Friedman, Ed Schuttenberg, Kelly Sullivan and Tom Stern to get CIE up and running we quickly found out that much work still lay ahead.

Over the next three years the Technology Committee was pressed into service to modify our 2nd generation system – which was based on an MLS program – to make it work for the commercial industry.  The outgrowth of this process led us to the development of an RFP for our 3rd generation system in 2003.  This system was implemented in late 2005 and remains the basis of the system that we use today.

As I look back on my time as Chairman I remember most the time and effort that was brought forth by Bonnie Devine and Judith Jakuboski to insure that the transition from our 2nd generation to 3rd generation system went smoothly for CIE, the Board and most importantly our membership.  Their devotion to insuring that the data conversion from the old to the new system was flawless coupled with the in-depth training that they provided our members set the stage for the success that CIE experiences today.

I also look back over the past ten years and am amazed by the time and effort that was expended by Steve Tharpe, Jim Finn, Eric Friedman, Ed Schuttenberg and Kelly Sullivan.  These individuals were the driving force that took the idea of a computerized system and then evolved that idea into an actual working model that allowed our members to maintain ownership of their information.  The process they started was later furthered by the time and efforts of Gerry Prinster and Peter Newton on the Technology Committee.  By volunteering their time these seven individuals made possible the development of a system for our members that brought our industry from the paper based system of yore into the real time real results age of the Internet.

Finally, I would be remiss if I did not mention one last person who deserves the highest praise for our success.  Jack Goldman, retired EVP/CEO of the St. Louis Association of REALTORS, lent his support and guidance to CIE from its founding until his retirement in 2006.  Without his efforts during those formative years none of this would have been possible.”

CIE 2011 Election

Pursuant to the bylaws, all Commercial Information Exchange Members are hereby notified that the Election of 2011 Directors will be held on Monday, September 13th, 2010.

The following offices will be open to any Member in good standing that meets the Bylaws qualifications:

REALTOR DIRECTOR:
Two to be elected for a three-year term, with said terms beginning on November 1, 2010. No Director may serve more than two consecutive terms.

REALTOR ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR:
One to be elected for a three-year term, with said term beginning on November 1, 2010.  No Director may serve more than two consecutive terms.

Thursday, July 15th, FIRST DAY TO FILE, Nomination form, Agreement to Serve form, and  photograph must be filed at the Commercial Information Exchange office.

Friday, July 30st, LAST DAY TO FILE, All forms and one photograph must be filed by 5:00 p.m. at the Commercial Information Exchange office.

Tuesday, August 24th, BALLOT AVAILABLE ON-LINE TO PARTICIPANTS by Commercial Information Exchange office, listing all candidates’ biographies, (listed alphabetically).

Monday, September 13th, ELECTION DAY, Ballots must be completed online by 12:00 p.m. (noon) in order to be counted for the 2011 Election of Directors.

Did you know that CIE offers FREE hands-on training?

Classes are held from 9:00 am - 11:30 am, at the CIE office. Registration is required as we are limited to the number of computers available. Three dynamic classes are available:

Basic: Searching Techniques, Selecting and Using the Various Reports, CDX Mail. Emphasis on Searching.

Advanced: Searching Techniques, Selecting and Using the Various Reports, Setting up User Preferences, CDX Mail. Emphasis on Agent/Client Tools.

Administrators: Searching Techniques, How to Add, Edit and Maintain Company Listings. Selecting and Using the Various Reports, CDX Mail, Email Listings, Uploading Photos and Flyers.
